A Supportive Summer: How We Stay Connected to Families

Summer often brings a shift in rhythm for families. Schedules change, routines loosen, and children experience long stretches of growth, exploration, and transition in a relatively short period of time.
At The Native School, we believe support for children also means support for families.
That’s why our summer programs are designed not only as meaningful learning experiences for students, but as a connected, transparent, and well-supported experience for parents as well.
More Than Just Drop-Off
While children spend their days exploring trails, building friendships, creating art, observing wildlife, and engaging in hands-on learning, families remain closely connected to the process.
We intentionally provide tools and communication that help parents understand:
what their children are experiencing
how learning is unfolding
and how to extend those experiences at home if they’d like to
Because when families feel informed and included, children benefit too.
Inside Our Summer Class Website
Each enrolled family receives access to our Summer Class Website, which acts as a central hub throughout the session.
There, families can access:
our summer orientation slideshow
calendars and location information
gear recommendations and packing guidance
important reminders and updates
helpful parent resources and flyers
and our daily reflection slideshows documenting classroom experiences
To help families feel even more prepared, we’ve also created a walkthrough video of the summer website so you can see exactly how it works and what resources are available.
Daily Reflection & Documentation
One of the most meaningful ways we support families is through our Daily Reflection Slideshows.
These reflections provide a window into your child’s day through photos, observations, and highlights of the learning taking place outdoors.
Rather than simply asking children to summarize their day after a long afternoon in the sun, families are able to revisit experiences together with context and connection.
Documentation helps make learning visible.
It allows families to:
better understand the process behind the play
see developmental growth over time
continue conversations at home
and feel more connected to their child’s experiences
Supporting the Whole Family
We know that choosing a summer program is about more than filling time - it’s about being part of a community where your child feels safe, supported, and inspired.
Our goal is to create a summer that feels:
connected rather than chaotic
intentional rather than overstimulating
and deeply rooted in childhood, wonder, and relationship
Through consistent routines, experienced educators, and open communication, we aim to support not only the children in our care, but the families walking alongside them.
